Our Mission

Pleasant Lake Elementary School faculty and staff believe that learning is a lifelong process. Students will develop a knowledge base and the ability to process information both critically and creatively. Students will be encouraged to become successful, contributing members of society.

In partnership with parents and community, we as educators at Pleasant Lake Elementary School are dedicated to meeting each child at their educational level and to encouraging them to achieve their optimal potential.

We believe that:
  • All children can learn.
  • Children learn differently.
  • The family is the primary influence on the child's development.
  • Attitude of the child effects performance.
  • Children need to be prepared to assume their role in an ever-changing and diverse society.
  • A nurturing and caring environment enhances a child's confidence in him/herself and contributes to his or her success.
  • Children need to develop a desire to learn throughout their lives.

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Pleasant Lake Elementary School. Pleasant Lake Elementary School is located at 1205 West Main Street, in Pleasant Lake, Indiana, approximately four miles south of Angola, Indiana, in Steuben County. Steuben County is bordered by Michigan to the north and Ohio to the east. We are a small K-5 school of approximately 200 students. We are a school rich in local history. Our present building was constructed in 1915 after a fire destroyed the previous school building located on this property. Education at this location dates back to a wood-frame school built in 1872. Many of our students can boast that their parents and grandparents attended this school.

Pleasant Lake Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County. We believe we are the only school in the state of Indiana located on lake front property.

We, at Pleasant Lake Elementary School, are proud of our academic achievements. Four times in the past six school years, Pleasant Lake Elementary School has been designated by the Indiana Department of Education as a Four Star School. In 2000 - 2001, Pleasant Lake Elementary School was selected as a Blue Ribbon school.

Pleasant Lake Elementary School is accredited through AdvancEd, formerly  the  North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. Our goal for our students is “All students will increase in reading comprehension”. The interventions we identified to achieve this goal are Reading Recovery and the Four Block Literacy Model.
